About Us

The Anderson Police Department Citizen's On Patrol Program was organized and implemented in 1999 with six founding members. Since then they have participated in six Citizens On Patrol academies, and the organization has grown to a total of eighteen members. June 5th 2006 the volunteer program expanded by 7 members, all of which graduated from the A.P.D. citizen's academy.

The citizen's academy educates citizens in many areas of police activities. They are trained in self-defense, drug identification, low speed vehicle operations, canine demonstrations, dispatch, issuing parking citations, fingerprinting, report writing, traffic control, and practical application scenarios and firearms demonstration.

Those wishing to participate in the volunteer program must be willing to dedicate a minimum of sixteen hours a month. Volunteer duties include, but are not limited to, regular vehicle patrol, foot patrol, records keeping, evidence, abandon vehicle abatement, animal control, dispatch, and community oriented events.

Annually the volunteers participate in the Shasta District Fair, Third of July, National Night Out, Redding Lighted Christmas Parade, Hot-O-Rama, Halloween patrols, and DUI checkpoints.

Citizen volunteers are a valuable asset to the department in this day of community oriented policing.

Registered member of National Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) since 2004.
